Closeup of broach active end: you can see the relief at each step. The relief goes in about 0.020" and the step is about a 20 degree forward rake. For wood, the relief needs to be *much* larger, because it jams with chips. I did this as a test piece for a hardened tool steel cutter for squaring up the insides of square steel tubing post-welding.
