I’ve been reading a lot online about making rings and about the challenges involved. First, I realize that I’d want to laminate more than one piece of wood to make these stronger, or just recognize that these aren’t necessarily going to last. I made the two maple rings on the lathe and then shaped and sanded with carving tools and sandpaper. I made the two pear rings just with carving tools and sandpaper. One is somewhat imperfect but has a nice grain and looks good while being worn. One is more perfect, but chunkier. The maple rings are more perfectly shaped by the lathe.
