Dowlow’s Day Off Taxi Duties

DB Cargo Class 60, 60044 "Dowlow" heads through Crewe towing Class 66, 66082 and Class 90, 90021 on 0Z54 09:08 Crewe IEMD to Toton TMD.

The 60 was "borrowed" from its usual day off from the Tunstead/Lostock limestone workings due to a lack of available diesels to work the move and had earlier run from Arpley to Crewe ETD to collect its passengers.

90021 – still clinging on to its First ScotRail livery almost seven years after DB stopped working the Caledonian Sleeper – was being moved to Toton for paint, or more perhaps more accurately, vinyl.

The 90 has been stored since January 2016, but is well on the way to a comeback now. It was one of the five DB Cargo Class 90s selected for the ill-fated Grand Central Euston-Blackpool services and reinstatement work was almost complete when the pandemic saw those plans shelved in mid-2020. Work on 90021 was halted, but then recommenced last year, with DB in the process of bringing it back to increase their pool of active Class 90s up to 12 in number.
