Big Apple Vase

I turned this vase this week from some apple wood that came to me recently by way of a friend-of-a-friend. The main piece from the collection is a heavily burled section of trunk well over twice my body weight. It took considerable wrestling to get into the truck, and I’m really not sure how to tackle it without mangling it with the chain saw. Since it is still wet I may wait a few years to tackle it on the assumption that I may then have a much larger bandsaw and lathe. This was from a branch about 12" in diameter and was still moderately wet, though down two years. According to the owner, the tree was probably planted in the 1950s. Apple vase finished with shellac (outside) and black paint (inside), Olympia Washington.
