A creation based on my "3×3 snake cuboid", after several persons suggested to me to turn it into a building! Promises are made (2 years ago) to be kept! And yet the building was finished just two months after the original sculptureā¦ The photographer was obviously on strike š The scale is twice the original sculpture’s (the building is 20x20x20 studs).
The main challenge was to create a building (hence a closed volume) following the "open" aspect of the model. So I tried to accentuate this solid/hollow contrast by using white (in addition of trans-clear) to fill in the gaps, and by placing this thinner envelope a little recessed from the facades and roof. The outer structure is also present inside the box, the red being replaced by tan woodwork that house the books.
What the build lost in simplicity from sculpture to building is, I think, offset by the possibility to open it and look inside. This allows to reveal the fact that the volume enclosed by the sculpture is larger than it seems from the outsideā¦ Plus you can play !
