Trimmed around the bush to promote a cleaner look, making it easier to mow and clean the corner area, and allowing access to the gas meter. I discovered some sort of square ceramic tube separating the bush from the meter. This part of my yard was actually not part of either property, something like a utility alley, some time ago. In the shed I found a long "branch lopper" with a curved blade that works wonderfully, cutting branches up to 2.5 inches or maybe 4cm thick.
The damaged fence is relatively new, apparently the previous installation used a low quality or untreated wood. My neighbors fence on my east is sagging terribly in between the poles, probably a totally untreated wood intended for painting over. I plan on using galvanized steel poles, filled with concrete, and if it’s cheap enough, I’ll get decorative caps for the poles.
