So right out of the gate, I find it’s not as easy to source 3/8" clear pine boards as it was when my great-great-great grandfather was milling them himself.

The thinnest pine boards around were 1-in. My local hardware store could cut them, but couldn’t split it down the middle or plane it. If it wasnt’ New Year’s Eve, I might have been able to find someplace that could, though.

The closest I could get on my tight timeline: 1/2" x 6 poplar. I had a 7′ board cut into 16" pieces, which I’ll work down.
