Photo courtesy of Claudio Berstein of Trailkeepers of Oregon. Photos is from the May 22 2018 pre-work party scouting mission on Larch Mountain Trail. The greenery is especially brilliant and shows the resilience of the landscape.

Scouting missions help us coordinate and plan work parties together so leaders know what tools are needed and what work will be done and what safety issues need to be addressed first.

This photo also shows how significant the rock slides can be. The places where you see nice tread and clean trail, we’ve removed & resurfaced all of that tread with a crew of about 10 people. The switchback section took about 2.5 days to clear with 6-10 people working 10 hour days. The only way to remove the rock was to send it downhill to the next switchback compounding the work below. That section is no greater than 500 feet.
