I built this workbench in 1990 at my first house. At the time it was my first woodworking project of significance. Since then, it has been my main workbench. This week I obtained a workbench my grandfather(a finish carpenter) built for my father. This one was 4feetx2feet, strong but light 2×4 frame, mostly held together with glue, and some large nails. I have used the frame design for other benches, tables and even some barstools. The new one I have now is 11 feet long, so more than twice and has cabinets and drawers. ( joneste.org/photo_albums/benchapalooza/bp.html ) I gave the bench to a work friend who will continue to use it, but here is saying goodbye to many good times, many great projects and an amazing amount of satisfaction from a few dollars of unfinished wood.
