One of Network Rail’s four ETCS-equipped yellow class 37 locomotives (these are also known as class 97 since gaining ETCS) stands at the east end of a charter train which also included two West Coast Railways class 47 locos. The 37/97 is required because the Cambrian now only has ETCS signalling so only ETCS-equipped locomotives can lead trains (and the multiple units used on the day-to-day services must also be so equipped). This is unlike the plans in some other areas where it is intended to overlay ETCS on top of the exisiting signalling.
