The 2007 Traditional Large Craft class built this Haven 12 1/2 for a client under the direction of Master Boatbuilder Jeff Hammond.
The Haven 12 1/2 is the popular designer Joel White’s adaptation of Nathanael G. Herreshoff’s 1914 daysailor.
Seen here are different methods of striking waterlines – the "string method" which is being used to strike the top of the boot-topping and the batten method, which is being used to strike the bottom of the boot-topping. The parallel strings are used to mark the bottom of the batten; the batten tells us where to strike the line.
You can read a good summary of White’s work, here, in his obituary. www.nytimes.com/1997/12/10/sports/joel-white-66-designer-...
N.G. Herreshoff is often called "the Wizard of Bristol", and for good reason. Read about him here www.herreshoff.org/achof/nathanael_g_herreshoff.html and here www.herreshoff.org/hmm/index.html
