Woody Bay shed, on the 2ft (610mm) gauge Lynton & Barnstaple Railway. 0-4-2T ‘Isaac’ has her water tanks replenished between turns. The locomotive, built as No 3023 by W G Bagnall (Stafford) in 1953 for the Rustenberg platinum mines in South Africa, has been at the L&BR since November 2013. Woody Bay station, close to the original line’s summit, stands at 980 feet. Enthusiasts have reinstated almost a mile of the iconic former 20-mile route, which the Southern Railway latterly owned and operated before closing it in 1935 to all traffic. There are plans to restore trains, by 2026, to a stretch of about eight miles between Lynton and Wistlandpound. It is hoped, eventually, to relay the entire line. @15.27
