The 2007 Traditional Large Craft class built this Haven 12 1/2 for a client under the direction of Master Boatbuilder Jeff Hammond.

The Haven 12 1/2 is the popular designer Joel White’s adaptation of Nathanael G. Herreshoff’s 1914 daysailor.

Seen here is the traditional "parallel strings method", which is being used to strike the top of the boot-topping. The batten, which follows, is laid against the marks made on the hull to get a fair waterline.

You can read a good summary of White’s work, here, in his obituary. www.nytimes.com/1997/12/10/sports/joel-white-66-designer-...

N.G. Herreshoff is often called "the Wizard of Bristol", and for good reason. Read about him here www.herreshoff.org/achof/nathanael_g_herreshoff.html and here www.herreshoff.org/hmm/index.html
