The boys got into turning out these beautiful chess sets on the lathe last winter, and, as a result, sent our whole family (and friends!) into a chess playing frenzy, so that the usual quiet, slow winter evenings became loud with competition and intense with skillful playing maneuvers. That winter just flew by!
The images are STOCK PHOTOS. Your chess set will vary slightly from the one shown. The pieces are all hand turned out on the lathe by one of my brothers, while another crafts the board/carrying case combo.
The king stands about two inches tall and the playing board squares are about one inch. The wood is spruce with the dark squares and pieces being burned black. The whole set will be treated with 100% natural hemp oil to bring out the grain of the wood and preserve it.
