I’ve mostly worked as a high end woodworker since 2001. Museum quality furniture and picture framing, multi-million dollar house finish carpentry… I know my stuff and have used a lot of power and hand tools. But often, I find that stuff overly fussy and precious. I occasionally like impulsive, intuitive furniture making that doesn’t flaunt wood grain patters, reveals, etc etc. Also, to built really "nice" stuff means lots of expensive tools. Even nice hand tools cost a pretty penny. To shape wood significantly and quickly means table saws, routers, planners, blah blah.
For my desk, these are the tools I have. Plus a couple spring clamps and a variety of screws.
