Maple (Acer saccharum) USA – From local hardwood lumber store.
Padauk (Pterocarpus indicus) India – From local hardwood store.
Purpleheart (Peltogyne altissima) South America – From local hardwood store.
Ebony (Diospyros crassiflora) Gaboon, Africa – From wood purchased from a retired wood collector.
Black Walnut (Juglans nigra) USA – From Jenny’s uncle in Minnesota.
Ash (Fraxinus americana) USA – From one of Jenny’s old solid wood dressers.
Quilt style: Nine-Patch, 1005 individual 1/4×1/4×3/4" pieces.
Carving style:
Hand and power carving tools to give a slight, wandering curve on both sides.
Sanding:
150 grit, then 220, 320, 400, 600.
Finish:
Box – Polyurethane.
Lid – Lacquer, to preserve color of Padauk and Purpleheart.
