A tidy-looking D2595 was stood in the shed yard at Steamport between duties on the running line along the west side of the museum/shed yard on August 28th 1993. D2595 emerged new from the Hunslet factory in Leeds in January 1960. Its first allocation was nearby York North (50A), followed by Ardsley (56B) in October 1960 and Bradford Hammerton Street (56G) in 1965. In April 1967 the loco moved north of the border to Haymarket (64B) and was eventually withdrawn from service at Thornton Junction (62A) in May 1968 as part of the BR National Traction Plan, which sought to rationalise the diesel fleet and bring some standardisation. D2595 was only just over 8 years old when withdrawn and was stored and overhauled by Hunslet, prior to being sold to the CEGB in 1969. The loco along with sister loco D2587 worked at Chadderton Power Station until made redundant for a second time in 1981 when the Power Station closed. Both locos were initially stored at Kearsley Power Station near Bolton, before passing into preservation.
