You won’t find this in the text books, but it is ideal for fixing timber structures to existing buildings. Why did we use it? Because there was no access to the existing beam from above to drop in a dovetail, and it was thought that a standard tusk tenon would be too much at risk of pulling out under tension. The direction of pull from the shade sail that was to be suspended from this trellis would act to wedge this joint even tighter.
