Van Gogh. He painted a large number of his works in a sort of Rivalry with a french artist, Gauguin (it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_Gauguin). Gauguin made a chair with some theme for which Van Gogh decided to contrast with his country bumpkin chair. Tobacco, onions in a box, pipe, wooden chair. This might even be the house the two artists shared together
