Around a month or so ago I took a beginners wood carving class. I have always enjoyed wood but never did any carving. I was hooked. The course ran over a weekend and we learnt basic techniques. The class taught us to carve using just four gouges (chisels) I bought an extra one recently to carve some of the details. It turns out, this is called relief carving and I have since found out a whole world of wood carving. This was my second attempt, the first was an Owl we did in class. I now have two more on the go, pending the arrival of some smaller gouges for finer detail.
