I turned this wet to approximate shape and size and finished it off once it was air dry. I seldom wait as long as I ought to before finish turning based on what everyone else says about turning wet but I don’t have any trouble with cracks or warping. If the wood feels light in weight it gets finished off. This is flame box elder and is 7 5/8" x 2 3/4" (19.3 cm x 7.3 cm) finished with water-based poly, five coats.
My white balancing was not quite good enough, the lighter wood is actually sort of a beige color. The reds and browns are pretty accurate, though.
