The plan was get to Acton Bridge for 10am for ‘The Wirral Squirrel’ run by The Branch Line Society, starting at Crewe and taking in a rather circuitous route in Cheshire and North Wales.The Locos were supposed to be two Heritage Class 40s but due to the fact there was no one to bring the second one from the East Lancs.Rly. Locomotive services supplied one of their Brush 4s. However ,due to a15 minute late start from Bangor ,I arrived at Acton Bridge to find I had missed it by 12 minutes ! Drat !

As there was some time before my next position at Helsby, I decided to check out Chapel Lane a bit further north having seen the location on a pair of posts on Flickr.Got there in time to see a green signal ahead, in the rain, and lights approaching from Acton Bridge Station, Grabbed the camera and took a snatch shot in the rain! It could have been better but was adequate compenstion for the missed Class 40. The train is 6Y52 Crewe, Basford Hall – Hazel Grove headed up by Freightliner’s new liveried 66419 and fortuitously running 96 late !.
