Some info on this structure:
"This building is most likely one of the oldest structures at Hancock Shaker Village. Originally a farmhouse belonging to a convert, the building has grown around the original house, but it still retains its large kitchen hearth and fireplace in the center of the first floor.
The Laundry & Machine Shop is a unique structure even within a Shaker village, as it served as a shop for the joint use of both brothers and sisters. The brethren had a woodworking shop and the sisters had a laundry, both utilizing the 1858 water turbine as a power source. The water turbine and its belt-driven system have been restored and run several machines in the woodworking shop."
