hoping for a new direction

hoping for a new direction

Hi Flickr, I have not been here in a while, well basically only Roid Weeks which is coming up soon.
So my digital photography has basically been on my phone for the last couple years. I tried to upload some here, but I ended up taking the same shots I always take. A documentation of the pretty things and shapes I see around me. mostly leaves and flowers, blah. I mean I still pull my phone out when I see a fantastically twisted fern frond, but it is not art. It says nothing but OMG! THAT IS SO PRETTY! Not that there is anything wrong with that, I have been doing it for a long time. A Really long time. I want to make something new. Now that I am in college heading for an art degree (hopefully then on to UW Tacoma) I want to take the medium of photography with me. I started making pictures to
1. Get OUT of the house, the depression and anxiety had crushed me and I NEEDED to see that something beautiful in this world still existed and that I could still see it existing.
2. I used it to hide behind at parties (so convenient not to engage and hide behind a lens)
3. I met some really awesome people online though this craft.
I don’t know what will happen in my class, the teacher is crazy passionate about art and it is super infectious. I am hoping to find a direction, get critiques besides "I love this, it is really good" This does not make me better. It made me complacent.
Oh and the photo class will be HERE on Flickr. So maybe I need to reconnect with my old stuff, look at it with new eyes.
Right now visualizing a new direction in photography is kind of murky and I don’t know what it’s shape or shapes will be. But I am, as always, hopeful.
