I designed these units last semester and constructed them in January. This was my first time creating a piece of furniture going through the full spectrum of a production path. First we were given a design objective, this was followed by initial sketches, market research, preliminary drawings, and then the working drawings.

The units are meant to pair together so a TV could span across the two units. The left unit contains two drawers and is made from 1” thick baltic birch plywood, the right unit is solid maple. Both units are constructed of mitre joints on all sides. The mitre joints were reinforced with biscuits to manage the alignment and provide additional support. The edge of the drawer faces and the mating surfaces were edge taped to hide the plywood edges. It was my first time edge taping, biscuit joining, and hanging drawers, I learned a lot on this project. Both pieces were finished with lacquer.
