F-Hole in an Antique

A note for non-musicians: Violins and similar instruments require holes for the sound to escape the sound box. The ones in this instrument are shaped like a cursive letter "F," so they’re commonly known as "F-holes."

My daughter-in-law, Michelle, recently acquired this old violin. It had been purchased, used, by her family member, about 100 years ago. We can’t tell exactly how old it is, but Michelle is using glue and special tools to put it back in working order.
