Turning the Tables

A slightly different view tonight.
The idea is to model Old Oak Common in the period when steam was in the demise and diesels were on the up.
OOC or Shed 81A originally had four turntables, each with about 25 ‘roads’ but three were demolished shortly after I stopped going there back in the mid 1960’s when both steam and diesel power shared the tracks. I’ve temporarily modelled the remaining one and will depict it partly demolished but still with loco’s inside of which I have photo proof of a Brush 4 with small 0-6-0’s and such larger loco’s as Castles or Halls extant.
In the end the surviving turntable had no cover to it but that’s no fun so here I’ve various girders still supporting what will be the roof.
The light brown three road service shed was built around this time and that single brown building is the Store but I’ve had to truncate that from a double to this single in the interests of available space.
The double black lower buildings are the offices and to the right the tall shortened building is the end of the ‘The Factory’ where loco’s were repaired.
Out of shot around the bend are the two long buildings that housed the Blue Pullmans. On the original plans those sheds were parallel to this area but space precluded doing that so I sent them around the bend!
At the moment it’s an exercise in sizing and positioning before fixing the track in place and beginning the long process of replacing and detailing all of the above – not least getting the loco’s in their correct liveries for the time and all suitably weathered and soot covered being that steam was still active even when those nice shiny Blue Pullmans arrived.
