A view along the running shed at Reddish Depot on August 31st 1980. With a track inspection trolley in front, the nearest Class 76 was 76025, sharing the building with another Tommy and a 47, 25 and a 40. The blue Mk.1 Ford Escort estate on the left had a sticker in the back in the window ‘Save the Woodhead Line’. The Manchester-Sheffield 1500v DC system had just 11 months to go when this image was recorded. Reddish depot eventually closed in April 1983 but was kept intact for conversion into a maintenance facility for the planned Metrolink tram system. In the event it was not required and the site was cleared in 2008. Housing now covers the entire site……….how the mighty fall.
