Urban Exploration in Berlin*
The construction time of the round house was essentially limited to the 19th century. In Germany, the last round house was built in 1893 in Berlin-Pankow with 24 tracks.
The depot adjoining the station with a water tower and roundhouse was shut down in 1997. There are plans to build a large furniture store with parking space there. Because the roundhouse is a listed building and must not be demolished, it is left to rot … or ways can be found to circumvent the monument protection.
* That with the monument protection in Germany is questionable. I am only thinking that years ago an area of the Berlin Wall with parts of the well-known East Side Gallery and the former death strip were sold to Mercedes Benz under strong protests by Berliners and removed to build a hotel there.
