Sacristia da Capela do Convento (Nossa Senhora da Conceição) dos Cardais, Lisboa
The Conceição dos Cardais Convent was founded in 1681 and built in a Portuguese version of Baroque style, rich decoration blended with architectural simplicity. The convent consists of the church, two cloisters, a refectory and various annexes; since 1878, the church has belonged to the Sisters of the Third Order of St. Dominic. The church is notable for the quality of its azulejo tile panels and carved and gilded woodwork. The panels are by the Dutch artist Jan van Oort and depict scenes from the life of St Teresa of Ávila. The high altar has a painting by 18th century artist André Gonçalves.
