The Little Trestle

About 1.5 km beyond the Rocksprings trestle on the BNSF freight line stands another wooden trestle, this one much shorter in length—I think of it as "the little trestle." While the Rocksprings trestle spans the wide Mojave riverbed, the little trestle spans a narrow arroyo where the tracks curve northeast toward the Ord Mountains, heading for the pass leading to the open desert. Like its longer sibling, the little trestle is an elegant bit of woodwork, and if you approach it on a sunny early morning, you’ll be rewarded with a fine criss-crossing of deep shadows beneath its sturdy framework.
