I had mentioned in my last couple of posted pics that I was going to look into making use of the table slide to function as the skeletal frame of an under mount tail vise. And so what’s going on in this pic’s composition is 6 identically framed exposures of the slide incrementally being moved the length of its available travel will take it, mounted as a face vise rather then a tail vise. Though it could be set up to go either way at either end. But for layout and planning purposes, I set up the front mount because I don’t have the available real estate in my room to photograph it! lol

So I do these sorts of digital scetchouts to help me come up with actionable ideas to build and be happy with the results of the functionality and the overall look of it.

The position as illustrated above is far lower in height than the actual final positioning, which will be about 6 inches higher up with extension blocks to fine tune the working elevation of the jaws, front and back.

This front firing design will yield about 3 feet of vise opening, so it could be somewhat useful for doing cutting board glue ups or similar type lamination processes.

But beyond all that, this slider idea really puts a unique design stamp on the whole work bench and is a truly wild visual impression it makes, especially in person! …imho.

What do y’all think?

Comments, questions, opinions; all are welcome. 🙂

Cheers! 🙂
