Deltic 55009 Alycidon was fired up today for the fitters to carry out a Fitness to Run exam. Even on one engine the sound was tremendous and the low frequency vibrations could be felt in the pit of your stomach from one end of the yard to the other!

Hopefully the FTR was successful this time because at the April Diesel Gala it failed to get beyond Quorn.

This was a report I saw yesterday: "55009 ran 50 fault free miles using no.1 engine. The loco had class 25 D5185 in tow as a backup and to provide some load. This is the longest distance the loco has covered unaided, since it failed catastrophicly on 04/03/19 near Drem. No.2 engine is still running rough, but two issues were found with C1/C2 fuel injection pumps and control shafts today. These will be fixed on Saturday. Further mileage accumulation is planned for Friday this week with 37714 as a backup".
