Other than being gunked up, this clock was in very nice condition except that the plastic handle on the door latch was broken. Plastics, I think, were an inexact science back when this was made.
I turned what was left of the handle down to a uniform .365" diameter, and made this little knurled knob from a piece of 1/2" bronze bar stock that I had in the garage, boring the back side of it with a 3/8" end mill to make a pocket to epoxy the old part into.
It takes just about all the power that my little old lathe can muster to press this diamond knurl into a bronze bar like this. The lathe is probably as old as the clock.
