The mattress is completely hidden from this view, which is the purpose of the up-folding leg and its "wings". Folding the I-beams back keeps the depth of the whole thing to as little as possible.

* Depth: 1’4"/16" (0.40m)
* Width: 5’5"/65" (1.65m)
* Height: 7’4"/88" (2.24m)

Overall cost: £280 (without the mattress) made up of £180 for the wood and £100 for the hardware (metal work/hinges/latches/screws).

The new mattress that’s now on the old bed – so that the old mattress could go on this bed – cost an additional £350.
