At shrines and "holy" places in Japan, you can often purchase a fortune. There are all kinds of different ways to get your fortune: I’ve seen numbered sticks, small drawers, picking a numbered ball. After you read your fortune, you have to decide if it’s a good one or not. If you like it, you keep it. I still have one in my wallet from a few years ago…I’m sure it’s expired by now! If you don’t like your fortune, there are these structures near by. They are wood frames with rows of jute string. You tie your fortune to the strings and offer it up. You then try again for a fortune that suits you. I’ve also seen, at the smaller shrines, that people tie them onto nearby tree branches…that is usually pretty cool. It’s interesting to see how many bad fortunes there are out there…and wouldn’t it be nice if you could keep rolling the dice to get the fortune that you planned?
Today was just a day. Nothing spectacular about it. I went to work, came home, watched a movie, and now I shall go to bed. Depressingly boring. I haven’t had much energy since I’ve been on this low carb diet. I needed a jump start back on the weight loss wagon after 3 weeks of leave/TDY and it’s working. But I’ve realized I’m addicted to carbs and REALLY miss them. Especially on the bad days…carbs soothe me! I think I’m going to stick with this until the end of the week and then go back on Weight Watchers. I do much better on a plan that lets you eat what you want (even CoCo’s!) as long as you watch portions and write EVERYTHING down. It’s a great exercises for an analytical perfectionist!
With that I will end this depressingly boring post…I blame it on the negative carbohydrate balance.
